The 2013 Men's and Women's Track and Field teams continued to build on the success they have achieved over the past few years. Many athletes earned personal best marks this season as well as a few school records broken. We even had athletes advance to the State Meet in Columbia for the first time in many years. This season was filled with more than a few accomplishments.
The Men’s team was lead by senior Austin Poisson who finished out his high school running career in style. After finishing in second place in the Region in both the 1600 and 3200 Austin went on to compete at the State Qualifying meet where he narrowly missed qualifying for the state championship in both events. However, he broke the long standing school record in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:11.
The Women’s team found similar success on the track. The school record in the 1600 was broken by three different Braves this year with the best time going to Crystal Shimer at a time of 5:45. Jill Dudley took the Region Championship title in the 3200 and bested her own school record with a season best time of 12:21. Both young ladies narrowly missed qualifying for an exceptionally competitive spot at the state competition. The Women’s 4x800 meter relay team of Crystal, Jill, Kyleigh Adorno, and Beka Booth (three 8th graders and a 9th grader) qualified for the State Championship meet and finished the season as the 5th best relay team in the state. They also hold the new school record in their event with a time of 10:13. Congratulations to them and all of our athletes this year.
The future looks promising for the Braves. We continue to achieve great things and blaze new trails. For those athletes who want to be part of something great and start a winning tradition, join the track team this spring. We look forward to seeing you on the track.
