Braves Mens Tennis Record Breaking Season!
For the first time in 31 years, a Socastee Braves sports team; Men's Tennis, was crowned the South Carolina State Champions in the Spring of 2013. The Braves went into the State Playoffs with an undefeated Regional record of 7-0 and 10-1 overall. Led by Kyle Barr and Robert Conley at numbers 1 and 2 respectively, the Braves defeated their lower state rivals 3-0 to set up a State Championship show down with 2012 State Champion, Chapin at the Cayce Tennis Center. In a thrilling third set tie breaker at number 1 doubles Kyle and Robert defeated the Koch twins to seal the victory and bring the state crown to Brave Nation. We bid farewell to our wonderful seniors; Robert (Co-MVP ), Tommy Lazaroff and Josh Davis ( Co- winners of the Brave Award and 6-1 Number 2 Doubles Team), Levi Altman and Alec Marinaro. Although the coming spring season will be challenging with the loss of many key players, we will be anchored byCoste Duvall, 2013 recipient of the Coaches Award with a 14-1 2013 record ,our Rookie of the Year, 13 year old Noah Johnson who played great all season at number 3 and 4 singles and returning Juniors, Chace Mullin and Amit Patel. With the transfer into the Socastee IB program of some talented young players, we look forward to retaining our title as Region VII Champs. Go Braves!!
